About Sam

The assignment was to find a self-portrait of my favorite artist then, Albrecht Dürer, and redraw it completely with my own face. I have never been as out of shape as what you see here, but I suppose my younger self must have already felt so. By now I have grown into a face much more like the one I copied. I’m sure you can imagine.

I started writing poetry when I was eleven. My first poem, I entitled, ironically,  “No more poems, no more songs.” As for drawing, since you see I do some of that too, I started it at about age five or so.

I was always making up stories. From my first interpretation of the world, largely through emotional memory, to playing with my toy people and houses and hot wheels, to my first lie. Once the world brainwashed me into thinking that lies were somehow evil, it took me a long time to learn to write and to finally tell the truth again.

For a few years now I have written. I have only now begun to draw again. Now, through this blog – what an ugly name for such a great mode of expression – I am free to represent myself as I please, and finally I have something to do with all my work besides letting what has survived rot on a hard drive somewhere.

You should know I have my more playful side, though how much of it is here I don’t know. Though all this comes from me, it is only part.

But for those who like these sentimental sentiments, as I call them, acknowledging their often maudlin nature, thank you.

If you’re reading any of this and like any of it, I am honored.

      1. Anything, my about me page is always changing. Sometimes I talk about family, school and hobbies. Other times its more about me on a personal level.

  1. To me, the “About” page is the most difficult thing to write. But I always check it on new blogs just to get an idea of who I’m reading. Good luck with yours 🙂

    1. Thanks for the help. I meant to have it up this weekend – and be posting – but I had to take a short hiatus for a side-project in development. I think it’ll definitely be worth my time away, and I’ll announce it on this blog when it’s finished – and it almost is – very soon. Details to come.

Now, I’m back here, though, let me see if I can get an about me posted by the end of the week. Meantime, look out for some new posts.

      Best,
      Sam.

  2. I found your about page and let me complement you on how beautifully you described what you like and have been doing since you were a child. Nice to meet you.
    =)

  3. Hello Samuel, thanks for following my blog and I look forward to following yours. Compliments on your avatar – the sculpture is a very interesting one. Why did you choose that image? Best regards, Phil Stanfield
